Build Your Career at Luton
Luton knows its strengths lie in the diversity of its community and the Council actively welcomes people from all backgrounds. It is recognised that everyone’s experience will be improved if each person’s perspective can have its own positive impact on the community as a whole.
The Council is developing a reputation for prioritising its people. This is built on the commitment to making sure they feel supported, empowered, and engaged. There is no doubt that employees bring their energy, determination and commitment to their roles and Luton are keen to match that by enriching careers through offering innovative learning and development opportunities.
Career Pathways in Adult Social Care
When you work hard, you need to be sure you’re supported by an environment which offers regular, professional supervision and encourages career growth and personal development.
Adult Social Care offers a whole range of opportunities for social workers to step up to or move into specialist areas. These roles are in close-knit teams made up of talented and dedicated people.
Safeguarding Adults
This is a fast-paced team which safeguards those who have been subject to, or are at risk of, harm and abuse. The social workers work closely with partner agencies including care/nursing homes, the police, health professionals and third sector organisations to achieve the personal outcomes identified by the person at risk.
Community & Reviews
One of Luton’s strongest characteristics is the range of culture and communities. The diversity brings interesting and varied challenges for social workers with an opportunity for creativity in their approach to work with people in the Community and Review Teams. The teams comprise:
- Social Workers
- Social Work Managers
- Advanced Practitioners
- Occupational Therapists
- Social Care Assessors
- Sensory Workers
They complete longer term, often complex work, using a strengths based approach to support people to live as safely and independently as possible.
Learning Disabilities & Autism
Luton provides an integrated community based service for people with learning disabilities and those with autism. Social workers will have the opportunity to work closely with specialist community learning disability nurses in the team to support people who use their services to achieve what they have identified as important to them and particularly ensure equality of access to health services.
Hospital Discharge
This team is also fast-paced and responsible for making sure all relevant patients are referred, assessed and discharged in a safe and timely way. The team is based at Luton and Dunstable Hospital and works closely with a range of other professionals within the Hospital and Community to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to achieving best outcomes with people in a demanding and dynamic environment.
Early Intervention & Prevention
The Early Intervention and Prevention team uses a strengths based approach to ensure people have choice and control to achieve the feeling of being safe, healthy and fulfilled in their lives. The aim is for timely interventions to offer the opportunity to prevent the need for longer term support from statutory services. Social workers are able to support people to access the range of community services they need in order to be as independent as possible.
