Relocation Package
Luton is so keen to encourage workers to experience its cohesive culture and community spirit that the Council offers a generous relocation package. Not only will social workers receive support and advice during their move, they may be eligible for a relocation allowance of up to £8,000 to cover expenses.
Flexible Annual Leave
Luton’s social workers enjoy 27 – 32 days of annual leave, depending on their length of service. As an employee, you also have the option to buy up to 20 extra days and of course there are seven bank holidays too.

All social workers are given a laptop and mobile phone and Luton makes good use of IT solutions such as Microsoft Teams to support hybrid working and collaborate online.
Many employees spend two to three days working in the office, depending on personal circumstances, health and wellbeing, or operational and practice requirements. Some teams remain office based – particularly those on duty or working weekends.
These working arrangements are designed to promote professional autonomy and a positive work/life balance.
Pension Scheme
It’s never too early to save for your future and it’s easy at Luton! You’ll be invited to join the Local Government Pension Scheme, and the Council makes contributions of 20.3% and a generous x3 salary death in service payment.
Car Parking
Social workers are entitled to free car parking in one of the Council’s car parks.
Discounted Travel
Savings on Season Rail Tickets: Luton employees are eligible for a discounted season rail ticket – 50% off makes a real difference to the Council’s staff.
Arriva Travel Club: Arriva and Luton Borough Council have joined together to offer savings on local Arriva bus travel. Take advantage of monthly discounts and buy your bus tickets by direct debit.
